BiographyHistory

The son of a priest, Vlada Mancic was born in Nis, Serbia, Yugoslavia. He completed his matriculation at the Economic and Commercial School in Valjevo, Yugoslavia and then moved to Italy where he began theology studies some time later. During World War II Mancic and his brother were arrested by the Gestapo and both witnessed the abuse and torture of other prisoners. After the war, Mancic lived temporarily in Germany and then migrated to Australia.

Mancic's work has been read on Radio 5UV in Adelaide and his poems have been published in Belgrade and Sarajevo. Mancic won first prize in the Vuk Karadzic Literary Award, 1980, and in the Njegos Award, 1982 and 1986.
