BiographyHistory

'Little is known of this colonial author, who published three collections of short stories and one novella in Melbourne between 1882 and 1891, largely with themes of romance and moral instruction. Comments in the preface to one of her collections indicate that she came to Australia from England, having also spent time in colonial India. Chads dedicated her collection The Snowdrop's Message and Other Tales (1888) to the Bishop of Melbourne, while Tried as Pure Gold and Other Tales (1882) is devoted 'by special permission' to the Governor of Victoria, drawing criticisms of 'bad taste' from a Leader reviewer of the time, for using social connections to seek literary recognition.'
