This is a collection of short stories, including one serial, by George Hardis Purves, which were originally individually published in The Australasian. The works were never published in a single volume in the author's lifetime: the collation is entirely the work of Walter Moore, a researcher based in the United States, who collected and transcribed the works for uploading to Project Gutenberg Australia.

The 'rocks' refers to a society of Sydney roughs, with the hero of the story being their leader. Focused on a larrikin hero.
