BiographyHistory

Maria Tomlins was born at Mount Doreen near Alice Springs. Tomlins was taken away when she was seven years old to grow up in an institution until she was evacuated to Adelaide during the Second World War. Upon evacuation from Garden Point to Adelaide her name was changed from Laura to Maria. She married in 1954. Maria's mother, aunt, and grandmother searched for her until they found her and took her back to Mount Doreen.
