BiographyHistory

Leah Umbagai was born at Derby in Western Australia and grew up in Mowanjum and Larinyuroar - Yaloon (Cone Bay). She was raised in part by her grandmother Elkin Umbagai. She is an artist and paints Wandjina images. She was awarded the prestigious Marlene Bruce Art Award for Kimberley Aboriginal Art at the age of just 20. Her work is represented in many collections throughout Australia.

Umbagai has worked as an Executive Councillor for Mowanjum and the remote Larinyuroar outstation. Her mother is artists Heather Umbagai.
