BiographyHistory

Gibson Barunga is an Aboriginal artist and a respected member of the Mowanjum Community in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. He has also carved boab nuts with subject matter such as landscapes, kangaroos, Wandjina, barramundi, goannas and turtles. Barunga's boab nut carvings have travelled to places as diverse as Tasmania and Berlin, Germany. He started carving when he was about nine years old and continues to practice the artform so that he can teach it to the young people of his community.
