BiographyHistory

James Squire was transported to Australia for seven years for highway robbery and arrived in Sydney on the Friendship with the First Fleet. According to the Australian Dictionary of Biography he was 'one of the earliest, if not the first, to brew beer in the colony and the first to cultivate the hop plant in Australia successfully'.
