'On a visit to New South Wales in 1836 Anley, in the company of Samuel Marsden, visited female convicts at the Parramatta Female Factory on behalf of the London Committee of the British Ladies' Prison Visiting Association. She describes the conditions of the prisoners, to whom she preached, and their responses to her, and discusses the transportation system generally. She also describes Port Stephens, St Heliers and St Aubyns and her reactions to the Australian landscape and climate. Heavily overlaid with religious observations, the second half of the narrative consists of stories of female servants in England who have either found salvation or fallen from moral grace' (Walsh and Hooton 14).
