Freda Vines is a direct descendant of the Bussell and Clifton pioneering families of Western Australia. She worked in radio (radio plays) and performed readings on the BBC. Vines also wrote articles on history and wildlife. She was elected to the Fellowship of Australian Writers (W. A.) in 1995.
Her first husband, Flight-Lieutenant E.L. Calder, was posted as missing from a non-operational flight in 1945: the flight was on 27 January 1945, and he was officially posted as missing in February of the same year. (See, for example, 'Air Casualties', The Daily News, 22 February 1945, p.2.)
In addition to the books listed on AustLit, Vines also published the local history, Bunbury and Busselton Sketchbook (1975).
