Charlie was born on Mt. Augustus Station and was trained to be a stockman beginning work when he was 10 years old. Employed on various stations in his youth, when the fight for equal pay reached the station where Charlie was working, he quickly found himself out of work. Charlie has had three wives in his lifetime. Charlie and his last wife, Linda had one child. When station work became scarce for Charlie, he moved back to a reserve in Carnarvon and began to drink heavily. After some time he realised that it was causing him health problems and he sobered up. Charlie became a Christian man after he quit drinking. He is a respected man and has been vice-president of the Mungullah Aboriginal Village council.
