AustLit

Nat Gould was a prolific and very successful English author, mostly of sporting and, in particular, racing novels. He was also a journalist and was resident in Australia 1884-1896. He spent his time in Australia working on several country and city newspapers. It was during his time with the Bathurst Times (which he edited 1888-1889) that he wrote his first novel, The Double Event. The titles listed in Gould's AustLit entry were either written during his time here and/or have significant Australian content. Those written after his return to England and which do not have significant Australian content (more than 70 novels) are not listed by AustLit. Most of Gould's novels were reprinted, some several times, especially in cheap paperback editions. His son, Nat Gould jnr.(q.v.), was also a novelist.
