One of the young writers in Blacktown Arts Centre's African Theatre Project in the late 2000s, John Garang co-wrote–with Yuol Yuol, Monica Kualba, and Akoi Majak–the play 'Two Ways Diverging'.
He arrived in Australia in 2004, after ten years in a refugee camp in Uganda. Since his arrival in Australia, he has completed a Bachelors in Medical Science (University of Western Sydney). He has worked as a teacher's aide (bilingual support officer) for the Department of Education, as a Sudanese advocate in the Blacktown area, and as a Humanitarian Youth Project Officer.
