BiographyHistory

Alitja Rigney is a Narangga Kaurna woman. She grew up at the Point Pearce Mission on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, in the 1940s. During a long and outstanding career as an educator, she became the first Aboriginal female school principal in her state. Alitja Rigney was awarded a doctorate from the University of South Australia in 1998.
