BiographyHistory

Born in Royston, Hertfordshire, Eleanor Stredder was the daughter of Edward Stredder, an upholsterer, and Mary Stredder (née Abbott). British census records list Eleanor as an upholsterer in 1861, and as an authoress in 1871 and 1881. While her children's novels seem to have been mainly written in the period 1890-1900, she also wrote short stories and non-fiction pieces published in earlier magazines and newspapers. As well as one book set in Australia, Archie's Find, Stredder wrote books for children set in Canada.
