BiographyHistory

Michael Riley grew up in Talbragar Mission, east of Dubbo. His mother belonged to the Gamilaroi people and his father to the Wiradjuri people. Riley was a founding member of the Boomalli Aboriginal Arts Cooperative in Sydney 1987.

In 2006 a major retrospective of Riley's work was held at the National Gallery of Australia. Riley was also one of eight Indigenous artists whose work was selected to to be featured in the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris in 2006.

Riley made several films including 'Black tracker' his grandfather Aboriginal Tracker and NSW policeman Alexander Riley's story.
