Victoire de Lambilly, the Comtesse de la Villirouet, was imprisoned in 1793 by the French revolutionaries. She secured the release of seventy prisoners by petitioning Bollet, one of the leading revolutionary authorities. When her husband returned from exile he was arrested, but the Comtesse acted as his lawyer and secured his release, thus saving him from execution.

The story of an English servant girl who posed as 'Princess Caraboo'. She spoke a strange language no one understood and was taken in by a country magistrate, Samuel Worrall, and his wife. She was eventually exposed as Mary Baker, a cobbler's daughter.

Willowee discusses the advice offered in The Technique of the Love Affair by 'A Gentlewoman'. The author argues being in love is a desire for possession and that women must avoid infatuation at all costs, rather they should learn to use a range of techniques to make a man fall in love with them. Flirtation is seen as a means to practise these techniques and 'A Gentlewoman' advises embarking on as many flirtations as possible.
