José Ramírez was born in the province of Entre Rios, Argentina, from which his nickname 'El Entrerriano' derives. His childhood was spent in the small village of Hernández. Ramírez began writing poetry at a young age and he received praise for his writing throughout his school years. He lived for fourteen years in Buenos Aires and then, in 1979, he migrated to Australia where he soon gained the admiration of Hispanic communities for his poetry, which he has recited at restaurants, clubs and ethnic associations.

Ramírez's first book of poems, Yo vengo de... América del Sur was published in 1982. Twenty-five years later in 2007, his second book Un largo grito de desarriago was published by Cervantes Publishing.
