Marjorie Harris was born at Mount Swan Station but was removed from her family when she was about thirteen years old. Harris was sent to The Bungalow in Alice Springs, then to Retta Dixon Home. Her father's name was Jack McNamee and he was an irish prospector and stockman. He met Marjorie's mother Maudie Elumbuk at Mt Riddock Station and she belonged to the Arrunta people.

As an adult, Marjorie Harris located her family and brought her parents to Darwin to meet her sister who had also been removed. In 1998, Marjorie Harris collaborated with Frank Alcorta for the publication of her biography titled Marjorie Harris: Rainbow. Her story was also recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication of Many Voices : Reflections on Experiences of Indigenous Child Separation, edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
