Edward Reddin was educated in Dublin before emigrating to New Zealand at the age of 14. His brother-in-law, Joseph Ivess, founded numerous newspapers in both New Zealand and Australia, and Reddin initially trained in the production side, rising to become foreman of The Ashburton Mail. Transfering to the literary staff, he eventually became editor.

In 1885 Reddin edited The Daily Northern Standard. In May of the same year he launched The North Queensland Telegraph and Territorial Separationist, the title signalling his support of the separation movement. In May 1887 he subsequently launched and edited The Charters Towers Times.

Reddin was a prominent Charters Towers citizen and frequently sat on the Bench as a Commissioner of the Peace until his accidental drowning in the Burdekin River age 32.
