BiographyHistory

Charles 'Sporty' Jones was born between 1912 and 1914 in the Wiluna area in Western Australia. Jones and his sister Kathleen were removed from their family by the Native Welfare and taken to Moore River Native Settlement where Jones lived for five years until he was fostered by white families.

Jones served as a Buddy for Sister Kate's Children's Home, Perth and while on active service during World War II he would correspond with and send gifts to the children at the Home. After returning for the war, Jones received none of the rights afforded white returned servicemen and later Jones's own children were removed from his care and placed in Roelands Mission.
