BiographyHistory

Australian-based minstrel and vaudeville entrepreneur/manager.

Joseph Billin (known publicly as J. Billin) owned and managed Melbourne's Victoria Hall during the early 1890s. During his time there he presented variety entertainment in the form of minstrelsy, vaudeville, and burlesque with companies known variously as the Representative Metropolitan Company or the U.S. Minstrel, Specialty, Comedy and Burlesque Combination. Among the best-known Australian minstrel performers to work under Billin's management were W. Horace Bent, Will Whitburn, Alf and Tom Holland, John Fuller Snr, McKisson and Kearns, Fred Davys, and Amy Rowe.

Billin's whereabouts after June 1892, when his name appears to longer to be associated with the Victoria Hall, have not yet been established.
