BiographyHistory

Chester B. Himes was a prolific African-American novelist, best known for his naturalist and detective fiction. His novels often deal with issues of black racial identity and examine physical, political and psychic violence in American culture. Himes is included in AustLit because his work was banned or restricted in Australia by the Federal censor.
