'Aborigines attack various Queensland properties. At Nangoo Creek lives the Beed family. Daughter Lily falls in love with station hand who turns out to be a gentleman of means. Neighbour Andrew Lang is killed in the raids, and his will discloses he is really a Scottish lord. The new hand at Beed is revealed to be Lang's wayward daughter who eloped to New York with her riding master. He was a drunkard and a gambler who abused her and ran through her money very quickly. She left him, and he is killed eventually. She is then free to marry Joe Yune the overseer of the Beed property. Central figure is the "half-caste" Millie.'
