BiographyHistory

Grace Metalious was a well-known American author who was catapulted to fame with the publication of her controversial novel Peyton Place. Derided as 'trash' by critics, Peyton Place remained on the New York Times' best-seller list for more than a year. Metalious lived in extreme poverty throughout her life. Three of her books were banned in Australia: Peyton Place was banned in 1957, Return to Peyton Place was banned in 1960 and The Tight White Collar was banned in 1961.
