BiographyHistory

Penny Tweedie 'worked in over 60 countries as a freelance photojournalist'. She 'covered major world events such as the 1971 Bangladesh war, the Yom Kippur war in Israel, and conflicts in Vietnam, Beirut, Libya and East Timor'. (Aboriginal Australians: Spirit of Arnhem Land (2001))

During her time in Australia (beginning in 1975), Tweedie worked with Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. In 1978, she became a Creative Arts Fellow at the Austrlaian National University. Her book This My Country: A View of Arnhem Land (1985) was a result of her work during this period.

Tweedie returned to the UK for the final years of her life and was based in Kent where she had spent her childhood.
