Charles Perkins was included in the Bulletin's '100 Most Influential Australians' list in 2006.

In his first biography, A Bastard like Me, Perkins states that he is Pitjantjatjara stemming from his mother's grandmother's heritage. From then on he only refers to himself as Arrente and Kalkadoon.
