1 Fire Reveals Him : for Angela, Monica & Karen Donna Ward , 2022 single work essay
— Appears in: Westerly , vol. 67 no. 2 2022; (p. 144-154)

'2019

'This year is nothing but fire. The Amazon began burning in January. And now, when you look at if from space, South America glows like coals in a grate. Siberia is on fire. Over two thousand hectares of boreal forest incinerated. Lines of cumulonimbus flammagenitus homogenitus spiral skyward. Peat fires smoulder. Russia's 'Green Sea' is gone.' (Introduction)

'She I Dare Not Name is a compelling collection of fiercely intelligent, deeply intimate, lyrical reflections on the life of a woman who stands on the threshold of two millennia. Both manifesto and confession, this moving memoir explores the meaning and purpose Donna Ward has discovered in a life lived entirely without a partner and children. It describes a life lived on the edge of a world built in the shape of couples and families. Rippling through these pages is the way a spinster, or a bachelor, or any of us for that matter, contends with the prejudice and stigma of being different. With courage and astounding honesty, Donna uncovers the challenge of living with more solitude than anticipated and what it is like to walk the road through midlife and beyond alone. And she reveals how she found home and discovered herself within it.'

1 Poetry Diary WA December 2008 Donna Ward , 2009 single work diary
— Appears in: Stylus Poetry Journal , January no. 32 2009;
It is Christmas and the poets are celebrating. In three weeks I have attended the launch of Westerly Journal No 53 where emerging poet Meredi Ortega was highlighted, the debut of the new publisher Tactile Books where Roland Leach launched the first poetry collection of Maree Dawes, the farewell of Ray Coffey from Fremantle Press which has appointed Georgia Richter to select its poetry publications, I attended three out of the five monthly poetry readings that happen around Perth, the Wheatbelt Cultural Festival and the Christmas party for Out of the Asylum Writers' group which birthed indigo- the journal of creative writing solely devoted to the work of emerging WA writers. What follows is a diary in reverse, short notes on some of those events, to give a flavour of the vibrant world of WA poetry. (The Author)
