Professor Jacobs has taught Chinese language and Chinese studies at Monash University where he has also been Director of the Centre of East Asian Studies. Jacobs studied at Columbia University (where he received his doctorate) and, as a post-graduate student, at National Taiwan University and Nanjing University. He has published books and articles on Chinese and Taiwanese culture, history, politics and economics.
