AbstractHistoryArchive Description

In contemporary Australia as well as pre-contact Australia there is no single right way or one way to be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Identities will vary according to place, time, language group and socio-historical context of the author.

This trail, created by Dr Anita Heiss and subsequently expanded by Irene Howe, collects just a sample of BlackWords records and other internet resources with themes of identity in Indigenous culture. Explore the entries in the list to see the contents in more detail. Some of the resources are readily available, but some will require a visit to a library or bookshop.
