BiographyHistory

John Field is an Australian composer, songwriter, performer and author who has written a large number of songs for the internationally acclaimed Australian children's performers, The Wiggles. He is the brother of Anthony Field (the Blue Wiggle) and Paul Field (the Wiggles' managing director).

The Field brothers formed the pop/rock band, The Cockroaches, in Sydney in 1979 while students at St Joseph's College, Hunter's Hill. They were later joined by future Wiggle Jeff Fatt on keyboards. The band toured Australia throughout the 1980s and released two albums and at least 18 singles. Their highest charting song, 'She's the One' reached No 7 in 1987. After The Cockroaches disbanded John played in several other groups, notably The Honeymen, The Alligators, The Oomph, and the John Field Band. He began his involvement with the world famous Wiggles soon after it formed in 1991, and since then has written more than 150 songs for the group. His most famous Wiggles song, 'Hot Potato' won an Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) award.

In 2001 Field's musical Evie and the Birdman was given its debut production at the Bondi Pavilion, Sydney. One of the cast members was Sam Moran, who later replaced Greg Page as the Yellow Wiggle in 2006. Field's second musical Who Loves Me? has been licenced for production by Origin Theatrical.

Feild's career has included commercial jingle writing, including one for Parklea Markets, and a children's book, Why is that Emu Wearing One Red Shoe? (in collaboration with David Legge). He also has a degree in Education.
