This unit focuses on developments in Australian cinema with reference to key moments in the nation's cultural history. In reviewing a selection of significant fiction feature films, the unit considers the role of cinema in its technological and stylistic developments, and its capacity to represent and reflect on themes and concerns such as national identity, myths of place, the role of history and the past, and Australia's place in the world.
