'Set, for the most part, in the harem of Topkapi Palace Constantinople during the time of the last ruling Sultan this novel travels back and forth through time. Beginning in 1936 a young English girl falls in love with a young Turk and they honeymoon in Istanbul. While on a tour of Topkapi Palace with her husband she is lured back in time and into the harem by a strange veil, a faded painting and the song of a gypsy.'
