1 Shen Mi de He Liu Yu Ao Da Li Ya Li Shi Zhan Zheng Jie Huang , 2022 single work criticism
— Appears in: Foreign Literatures , no. 1 2022; (p. 149 -158)
'The main achievement of Kate Grenville's return to the theme of Australian colonial history after 2000. The novel guides readers to think about the complex factors that lead to colonial violence by digging into the "first contact" between white people and Australian aborigines. The novelist's approach to historical material and her stance on "indigenous representation" make the work a focal text of a far-reaching "historical war" in the country's cultural life. The debates surrounding it have increased the breadth and depth of Australia's collective cultural memory from different angles. These debates, ostensibly a struggle for the right to interpret history between novelists who "appropriate" historical themes and historians who seek to preserve the purity of the discipline, are in fact the development of a decades-long ideological struggle in the country in a new field and extension. Influenced by the mainstream new right-wing ideas, some historians try to occupy a major seat in the social and cultural environment where conservatism dominates, so as to restore their former influence in the public sphere. Grenville, who was on the cusp of the storm, did not back down, and his positive attitude inspired other writers who devoted themselves to exploring Australian history.' (Publication abstract)

1 “The Stolen Children” and the Unspeakable Repentance : Language as Metaphor in Gail Jones’s Sorry Jie Huang , 2018 single work criticism
— Appears in: Foreign Literature Review , vol. [2018] no. 4 2018; (p. 135-152)

— Appears in: Foreign Literature Review , vol. [2017] no. 3 2017; (p. 122-140)

1 Contemporary Interpretations of the Ned Kelly Legend : A Comparative Study of Sister Kate and True History of the Kelly Gang Jie Huang , 2017 single work criticism
— Appears in: Foreign Literature , vol. [2017] no. 4 2017; (p. 36-45)

'Sister Kate and True History of the Kelly Gang are two important rewritings of the Ned Kelly Legend—an indispensable part of Australian collective memory. Both novels aim to rewrite history: Sister Kate focuses on deploring the unfair treatment of women in the nationalist history, whereas True History places emphasis on disclosing the operations behind the colonialist historiography. Both can be viewed as postcolonial rewritings: Sister Kate is primarily keen on bringing to light the catastrophic consequences under the colonial rule, while True History centers on the colonized Other’s fighting back. They are both involved in subverting the facade of masculinity. To attain this goal, Sister Kate reveals a series of aggressive exclusion on the part of the Kelly Gang, while True History focuses on the phenomenon of cross-dressing. A comparative study of both novels helps to explicate different writers’ concerns and approaches in their reshaping of Australian collective memory.'

1 Joan Makes History : A Bicentennial Novel Jie Huang , 2014 single work criticism
— Appears in: Australian Studies in China : Research on Australia by Chinese Scholars 2014;
'In 1988, Australia celebrated the Bicentenary of European settlement in the Australian continent. Once inaugurated, this event was soon endowed with great historical and political importance. This “national celebration” became a discursive field in which different political forces carried out their struggle against each other. Joan Makes History (1988) by Australian woman writer Kate Grenville is a typical Bicentennial novel, reflecting a distinct climate of expectations, values and interests of that period; it is also a consequence of a feminist writer’s active involvement in this highly influential national debate and her endeavor to occupy a position in the Bicentenary nationalist discursive system.' 1 The Personal and the Political : A Study of Contemporary Australian Feminist Novels Jie Huang , 2014 single work criticism
— Appears in: Australian Studies in China : Research on Australia by Chinese Scholars 2014;
1 Poppy : A Post-“Radical Feminist” Life-writing Jie Huang , 2014 single work criticism
— Appears in: Australian Studies in China : Research on Australia by Chinese Scholars 2014;
'Poppy by Australian writer Drusilla Modjeska is a typical life-writing which is based on the life experiences of an ordinary woman—the author’s own mother. In this work, Modjeska made great efforts to interpret three sets of relationships, i.e., that between “mother” and “daughter”, that between “father tongue” and “mother tongue”, and that between form experiments and feminist political tasks. Through examining these sets of relationships, this essay aims to disclose that this work is actually a serious theoretical revision of radical feminism in an unfavorable social context of Australia in the late 1980s and 1990s.' 1 P.R. Stephensen's Views on Australian National Culture P.R.斯蒂芬森论澳大利亚民族文化 Jie Huang , 2013 single work criticism
— Appears in: Journal of University of Science and Technology of Suzhou (Social Science) , vol. [2013] no. 6 2013; (p. 40-47)

'P.R.Stephensen( 1901-1965) was one of the forerunners of Australian nationalist literary and cultural criticism.His Foundations of Culture in Australia: An Essay Towards National Self Respect, which is widely acclaimed as the most influential critical essay of the 1930s, fully embodied the spirit of the age in that historical period.In this monograph, Stephensen came up with three requirements for developing Australian national culture.First and foremost,he advocated the principle of "locality" to help develop national cultures independent of that of the mother country. He laid stress on the definition the model of national literature,thinking it would help to differentiate between "authentic" and "fake" Australian national literature,and help to prop up serious works which concentrate on the true life of the people living there. He also pointed out that the main cultural forces should also include the publishers as well as writers and intellectuals: the mission of writers is to create works good enough to nourish the spiritual life of their nation, while the duty of intellectuals and publishers is to sponsor and support the former’s work. P.R. Stephensen’s views on Australian national culture have an enduring effect on different stages of the development of nationalism.'

1 A.A. Phillips and Australian Nationalist Literary Criticism A.A. Jie Huang , 2012 single work criticism
— Appears in: Journal of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (Social Science) , vol. 14 no. 3 2012; (p. 76-82) Australian Studies in China: Research on Australia by Chinese Scholars 2012;

'澳大利亚批评家A.A.菲利普斯是影响深远的后殖民理论关键词"文化自卑"的缔造者。在其漫长的文艺批评生涯中,他秉持坚定的民族主义立场,始终主张在澳大利亚发展不依附于母国的独立自主的民族文化。在他看来,澳大利亚文学有着自己突出的主题和传统,对本民族文化感到盲目自卑的殖民心态是毫无必要的。菲利普斯的民族主义文艺观具有很强的现实指导意义,在全球化语境下的今天,为各国建立或坚持自己的民族文化传统,提供了策略上的参考。'
