According to Convicts and the Arts, Lawrence Davoren was a convict attorney, convicted in Dublin in 1791. He is said to have attempted escape as early as 1794, the year after he arrived, and to have been captured and sentenced to 100 lashes.
A supporter of Governor Bligh, he wrote 'A New Song' around the time of the rebellion against the governor.
