Jim Brown enlists to win back the heart of Kalgoorlie girl Elsie Reynolds from bank clerk, Harold Bentley, who has enlisted for military service. Fast forward to Gallipoli, and in an act of bravery, Private Jim Brown takes a forward position and saves the day. In the process he also saves the life of his rival Lieutenant Harold Bentley, but is mortally wounded.
