  • Biography

Ian Burn studied at National Gallery School. When he went to Melbourne he got very inspired by the artists that he met. John Brack was one of them. Burn had a huge understanding for colour theory, materials and techniques for painting, and later on Fred Williams became Burn’s mentor. They shared the same deep suspicion for the academic life.

  • Artist Statement

What is held up as originality is a myth, given the degree to which art evolves as a collective enterprise, with artists always building on other artist’s work.
