A report on the [3] September 1868 meeting 'of the friends and supporters' of the Freeman's Journal in the Catholic School Room, Terrara. The meeting pledged itself 'to co-operate with the Catholics in other portions of New South Wales in defending the Freeman's Journal against the unjust and arbitrary prosecution of the Attorney General'.

The Freeman's Journal reports that 'a staunch supporter of the journal, writing from near Warwick, in Queensland' has sent £2 5s. for the Freeman's Defence Fund.

Buggins comments on the news that Queen Victoria will bestow Imperial honours on the mayors of towns visited by H. R. H. Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh, during his visit to the colonies.

Buggins then turns his thoughts to the theatre observing that 'there has been very little this week in the way of amusements'. He does, however, write at some length about the production of Robert P. Whitworth's The Derby Day and notes the performances of John Maddison Morton's Your Life in Danger and the upcoming revival of John Oxenford's East Lynne.

An editorial reflection from the Goulburn newspaper, the Southern Argus, on James Martin's prosecution of the Freeman's Journal. The Argus hopes that the 'good sense of all who reverence the freedom of the Press, and acknowledge its right to criticise the actions of our public men, will not suffer, without protesting, a portion of the palladium of our civil and religious rights to be tampered with by any one, even although that one is at the head of the Government, with the funds of the colony ready to aid him in the prosecution of so selfish a cause.'
