'Fourteen-year-old Trysten 'Tryst' Black's life changes dramatically when his older brother, Shaun, goes off to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan. Their mother, Kirsten, deals with Shaun's absence by drinking, leaving Tryst to fend for himself.
