Educated at Sydney Church of England Grammar School, Peter Meyer went on to carve out a career in education, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney (1968), Diploma in Education (1969), a Master of Arts (1970), and Master of Education (1977).
During his forty-one years as a teacher twenty-five were spent in developing countries including seven years in Brunei and eleven in Malaysia. In that time his positions have included Schoolmaster at various secondary and Grammar schools (specialising in History and English), Vice Principal, Education Officer, Project Manager, consultant/teacher educator (World Bank/AIDAB Project), university lecturer (Malaysia - for Charles Sturt University and University of Technology, Sydney), and Director of Studies (UTS).
Since retiring in 2009 Meyer has undertaken the editorship of The Sydney Organ Journal, while also contributing numerous articles. His major published works include: Pathways to Delight: a Guide to the Teaching of English Literature (1992), The Teacher from Snowy River: Carl Meyer and his Family (2004) and Rappville Public School 1908-2008: A Centenary of Public Education in a Rural Community (2008).
