  • An advertisement in The Sydney Morning Herald on 21 June 1884 announces that the plant for The Silver Age is en route to Silverton and that 'the new paper will be under the personal direction of Mr. J. S. Reid, "father of the press" on [the] North Queensland goldfields'.
