Description

Introduces students to a number of historical and present-day issues related to Indigenous ways of cultural expression. Students will examine the role of art, dance, music and literature in pre- and post-invasion societies. Students will also investigate the interaction between Indigenous and non-Indigenous expression and the impact on society today. They will look at the protection of Indigenous expression from exploitation through an exploration of intellectual and cultural property rights. Finallystudents will be introduced to the ways that Indigenous cultural expression includes both cultural maintenance and cultural capital..
