Books one and two in the planned four-book series were self-published in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Books three (The Mark of the Jackal) and four (The Last Stand of Fynaglade) were announced for publication in 2014 and 2015 respectively. In late 2014, however, the series was picked up for revision and republication by Hachette Australia, with a revised version of The Fyrelit Tragedy scheduled for June 2015, and the others to follow suit in 2015 and 2016.

But Neliek, Ervine and their friends soon discover that there is a much greater enemy than Veralos: K'zharn, also known as the Jackal, is preparing to conquer the entire kingdom of Fynaglade with his army of Dark Ones. The Fyrelits must find a way to foil K'zharn's plans, at the same time as trying to keep the peace in the fragile kingdom.
