Beginning as a performance poet, Royalle has collaborated with photographers, film makers, visual artists, and musicians, including funk, jazz and soul trio Sloppy Joe (their collaborative work, Stories by Starlight, was nominated for the Sydney Fringe Festival Music Award) and members of the London Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra. More recent collaborations include director Partho Sen-Gupta on the film SLAM, artist Annee Miron on a combination of poetry and sculpture for AirPlay Gallery, and choreographer Paea Leach on a dance piece for the Keir Choreography Awards.

Royalle’s one-woman show Love Spectacular was performed at Sydney’s first Fringe Festival, where it was nominated for the Show-stopping Individual Performance Award, and then at Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival and the Adelaide Fringe. Royalle has appeared alongside such renowned writers as David Malouf (at the Australian Poetry Festival) and has performed and taken part in panel discussions at the iconic Sydney’s Writers Festival.

Her published works include two collections, including one based on Love Spectacular, and a wide range of performances, including the 2015 Butch Princess tour. Her work has been published in such periodicals as Overland Literary Magazine, Mascara Literary Review, and Peril Magazine.

Royalle died in June 2018, at the age of 37, after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014.
