About the poem:
My recollection is that I wrote the poem when I was ‘stealing’ writing time during a Sunday afternoon group chess lesson for my oldest daughter (then 8) in Pittsburgh. I was trying to conjure a poem in a very limited time and to marshall scattered thoughts into something vaguely poetic. I let the scattered thoughts in and they just took over!
