Welcome to Key Australian Authors: a set of information trails developed for the Portal to Australian Studies: China project.

This page showcases three aspects of Australian writing: the making of a 'classic' tradition, contemporary literary fiction, multicultural writing, and First Nations writing.

These lists were compiled after a survey in 2019 of Australian studies scholars working in China, who provided information on the authors that they studied, read, taught, and were generally interested in. To these, we have added some of our own choosing, particularly authors with a high international profile.

If an author doesn't appear on these lists, check our exhibitions on Australian Writers' Week in China and China-Australia Literary Forum.

These trails are only an introduction to the richness of writing in Australia, and we encourage you to use them as a starting point for exploring the database further.
