'Editorially: By the time this issue is received, the elections for the National Aboriginal Consultative Committee with have been held. The February issue will provide details of the results along with photographs of the successful candidates.
'In the meantime, Aboriginal News wishes to congratulate all the personnel involved in the planning and the implementation of the many tasks necessary before this historic event could happen at all. Mr John Moriarty, the executive secretary of the NACC Interim Committee and his team at Canberra have achieved a great deal in a short term and no less an effort has been given by the people in the State and Territorial parts of the operation, co-ordinators and enrollers, polling clerks etc.' (Editorial)

'If I had listened to my grandmother I might have learnt the language, but in those days I wasn't interested.'
'Many people of Aboriginal decent have told me this, with deep regret. Now at last the tide has turned and some of the younger generation are eager to learn about the old languages and traditions. But for the majority of languages of the eastern and southern parts of Australia this change of attitude has come too late, as many are already extinct: in some cases there are only one or two elderly people left who have traditional knowledge, and usually there is no longer any hope of establishing a viable community of speakers.'
