Comments

Western Australia's first FM Radio station and its first community based radio station under the auspices of the university of Western Australia. Established largely by John Birman (Director of the Festival of Perth). Other names: Universities Radio Limited, Radio Station 6UVSFM.

Universities Radio Limited - Background

The formation of the company in 1978, Universities Radio Limited, was the response of the Senates of the University of Western Australia and Murdoch University to the requirement of the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal that the application for a broadcasting licence be made by an incorporated body representing a consortium of both Universities.

Directorships are filled on the nomination of both Universities' Senates. At its Inaugural meeting on 31 August 1978, the Board of Directors of the Universities Radio Ltd established an interim Board of management to manage the affairs of the Radio Station for the period 1 September 1978 to 31 December 1978 (Resolution 3(1)/1978). It was fully constituted as a Board of Management at the meeting of the Directors, 2 May 1979, Resolution 3/1979.
