ALEG
Weekly Report - Week 9, 30 June 2000
What I've done
- This week, we (MLA, ALM, KF) agreed to replace the
Work/Instantiation model with the Work/Expression/Manifestation
model of FRBR! Having made this decision, we discussed
typical sample uses (of "Voss", serials, multi-instantiation
expressions) and decided on a attribute list as a subset of
the FRBR sets, plus a few extra attributes of our own.
This decision requires a lot of reworking of the data model
documentation, which I've started - probably another
day to complete it.
- We also adopted the term "agent" to replace
"creator", and the 'pseudo-agent' entity to
represent names pseudonyms in a very general way.
This has meant reworking the names and agents
documentation.
- Further development of screen mockups for
data maintenance.
- Discussions on thesaurus structure.
What I haven't done but need to do soon!
- Start preparing for the ALEG Partners meeting in Hobart.
Next week
- Data Model - finish updatating to reflect FRBR decision
-
More work on screen mockups for data entry, exploring options for
entering linking, soliciting lots of feedback!
- Prepartion of materials for Hobart
- Probably talk more to ALM/MLA/TW about thesaurus structure
Summary
-
I'm happy with the adoption of FRBR - the extra work to
incorporate it now in our documentation will be worth it,
given the feedback we've had from those knowledgable about
the directions of cataloging and resource description.
