ALEG
Weekly Report - Week 4, 26 May 2000
What I've done
-
Most of this week has been spent drafting and discussing the
list of attributes we need to keep in the data model,
resulting in the production of an inventory.
- Thought more about the relationships between the entities of
the data model, and how a topic map approach could help.
Investigated the International Council Of Museums's
CIDOC
Conceptual Reference Model.
- Thought about a browsing interface which would allow users to
explore ALEG by following relationships.
A preliminary visualisation
based on the Windows Explorer model
raises as many questions as it answers, but is a start.
What I haven't done but need to do soon!
-
Find out more about Kinetica and NLA plans for making
holdings data available at no cost (?) (still pending...)
- Get the mini web site onto a shared network drive so that
others can more easily add and update documents.
Next week
-
Continue discussions on and refinement of the data model.
-
Continue thinking/discussions on visualisations of the
complex relationships - trying to come up with a browse
model which users will find intuitive and useful.
-
Start thinking about data maintenance user interface
requirements.
-
I'll be away Wednesday and Thursday at Australian Securities and
Investment Commission.
Summary
-
Going fine - I hope to get wide feedback on the data model
over the next two weeks and have the basic attributes and
relationships bedded down.
