ALEG
Weekly Report - Week 13, 28 July 2000
What I've done
- Produced a draft of an Issues
document attempting to group all the scary and unknown things
together
- Produced a draft of an Implementation
Options
document, discussing options for implementation and proposing
an approach based on widely used standards and "Open Source" components
- Completed update of data model based on feedback from
Hobart meetings
- Yet more drafts of the Design Overview...
- Meeting with the AUSTLIT team which discussed the Data Model and Issues.
This was a wonderful meeting which generated lots of ideas, but most welcome
for me, we tackled the thesaurus issues and settled on an approach about
which we all felt very positive (the results are now in the
Issues document, and the
Data Model Inventory has also been updated following this meeting).
- Meeting with Marie-Louise and Tony Ralli to discuss the project
and the implementation options (all very positive).
What I haven't done but need to do soon!
- Detailed Implementation Timetable
Next week
- Feedback from partners on all the doco Marie-Louise has sent to them.
- Document how ALEG will handle some tricky cases - The "Poets of the
Month" works from the mid 1970's and "Down the Lake with Half a Chook".
These are amongst the most "difficult" cases Tessa and Kathy can
come up with, so if we think the proposed data model can handle these,
we'll be happy!
- Discussions with ADFA IT people on implementation hardware/software
- Prepare for meeting with Kinetica the week after on holdings
- Draft an implementation timetable
Summary
-
A very productive week in which lots of loose ends were tidied
up and a clear direction emerged.
